Ah thanks so much! That is a great idea with the aluminium sheet, I laminated a few more bits of veneer so it is 6mm thick now Seems to be way more sturdy! And got some thicker magnets. Gonna be a ball ache routing the cavity cover recess to 6mm on the back now though as I have put all the hardware on (couldn’t wait to play it lol)

@drewbag Not magnets but I generally do about 5 or 6mm with wood covers. I just screw them down though which helps if they curve a bit. You could try gluing a veneer of wood to say 2mm aluminium. That would add stability. I used 1mm aluminium with ash veneer on my explorer build for the pickguard. Really added a lot of strength and stability.

So I have decided to go magnets and wooden cavity cover on my first build.

I went with 6mm x 1mm magnets which seems ok but I think I would go stronger/thicker in the future.

I also laminated 2 bits of sapele Veneer together 1.5mm (3mm thickness overall) which seemed ok but it went bent/curved in a couple of days so this needs to be thicker too grrr!

Has anyone used magnets and a 1 piece or laminated veneer for the cavity cover? If so what is your go to thickness and what size of magnets have you got good results from?

It’s my first build so lots of learning lol. Lived oiling her up the other day!
