I make my own benches from 2x4 and top with 18mm ply or mdf. Leave 4" of overhang so you have something to clamp on to. Screwed to a wall for stability this type of bench makes a perfect surface for building guitars. I'll do my best to show you on the next livestream - Wed 1pm...

First, let me just say I got totally inspired and sucked in by the livestreams... so inspired, in fact, that I'm tooling up to start building some guitars! One thing I lack is a really good surface to work on, so I'm looking at getting a workbench... but I'd like to hear your thoughts on what to look for, what is essential, what to watch out for, etc.

Thanks for everything you share!
