I'm planning on making the sides and centre block from a solid block of sapele/mahogany.

I'm struggling for the back and tops. Where are folk building archtops getting their wood?

Whilst there's a curve in the Century top and back I don't think it requires wedges...I've found a few "drop tops" that are big enough and 10mm thick which could work. But most drop tops seems you are paying for the figuring which I'm not that bothered about as I want sunburst/stain it.

Curious to know how folk are sourcing wood for larger guitar builds. Is it case of lumber and resawing etc.

Hello all, I'm nearing the end of my first design drawing, and I think it's going quite well, but I had a question before I finish.

First, The guitar I'll make will be from the electric guitar kit sold here

The scale is 25" and the supplied fretboard has 24 frets. Does that mean I need to keep all 24 frets or can it be cut down?

I'm using a LP template (for a LP Jr style) and I'm planning for a single P90....

My big question is.... In the video mark says he's lining the body template up with the last fret of the board.... In my case if I did that, the scale would be wildly off. So I chose to focus on keeping the scale from nut to bridge correct and then drew the body around that..... Now this means that the fretboard extends into the body a good bit, and if I actually wanted a second pickup, it would interfere I think.

The drawing doesn't look wrong to me, but I feel like there's something I'm missing between the video and what I've actually done. Can someone look at my drawing and confirm it looks correct? If not tell me where I went wrong? 🙃

Thanks!

I am currently building a jazzmaster type guitar. The neck is ready and done and I have a cheapish tremolo tailpiece. The cavities are routed in the body.

I decided to use a roller bridge (tune-o-matic style) instead of the original rocking type that Fender use. Now, this bridge builds higher than the original and I can see two alternatives:

1. Recess the bridge slightly into the body to make the neck angle smaller (I think too big an angle might look akward on a Fender type guitar)

2. Match the neck angle the usual way (end up with a set neck style, greater angle with a non-recessed bridge). This would of course increase the break angle over the bridge back to the tremolo, which is good but not necessary thanks to the rollers in the bridge.

Am I overthinking this? What would you do?

Hi guys, I'm currently following along to the "design your own electric guitar" course.
For the headstock I'm using the provided A4 pattern which I've traced on to my design. The problem is, the strings will be splayed out quite a lot. As you can see in the image, the line of the strings misses the tuning posts by quite some distance. I've doubled checked the print out of the pattern and the dimensions are bang on, the holes are the same distance from the nut take off point and the spacing between the holes is also an exact match to the pdf, so I'm a little confused as to what's gone wrong.

What would be the best course of action here, move the holes closer to the centre line? How far do the holes need to be from the edge of the headstock?
