The finish on my first acoustic build is matt, as per the instructions. It's nothing like the shine on my Collings but I really like it. However, I wonder whether I should be thinking about looking after the wood, or maybe this is not necessary.

Any advice on this topic would be appreciated.

For a Matt finish all you should need is a damp cloth to clean it - The fretboard should be treated with Lemon Oil (or similar) every once in a while or if it is looking a bit dry.

A gloss finish is a lot more work and a whole nuther level of difficulty - maybe next time?

Measure twice, cut once...

Thanks for that.

I've got the lemon oil from the original build and, to be honest with you, the body is still pretty pristine.

yeah, gloss and nuther level for a lot later.
