Hi everybody!

My name is Marcel Besselink, I'm dutch and I live in a town just outside Amsterdam called Uithoorn. In 2004 I went to beautiful Ayrshire for the first time to build a guitar at the Bailey BYO course. I had no experience with guitar making nor with woodworking or any of the tools used on the course. So I was quite surprised to go home after a week with a beautiful top notch instrument. And I became addicted. I wrote an article for a dutch guitar magazine about the course and returned 4 time to build 4 stunning basses. The third bass (a fretless one) is featured in an article I wrote for the dutch bass magazine "De Bassist". Not only did I fall in love with building guitars and basses at Bailey Guitars, but I also fell in love with Scotland. I've spent several summer holidays in Scotland and I go to visit Carol and Mark at least once a year. Last summer my visit to Scotland an the Bailey workshop was very special as I went to pick up a Bailey Big D acoustic guitar. For many years I believed that there could be no better acoustic for me than my Taylor 420R, but Mark proved me wrong. I love the Big D and I love Carol and Mark. They are two of the most beautiful people I've ever met and I cherish my friendship with them.

Hello Marcel, welcome to the forum.

You paint a great picture of Scotland, Mark and Carol’s workshop and the guitars that you have built. I have never been to the workshop but I did the online course to build my first electric guitar and I am now addicted to it too (I’m on my second build now). I have Mark and Carol to thank for this, it’s nice to find a new passion in life and I have certainly found one with guitar building.

It would be great to see some pictures of your guitars Marcel and I look forward to reading about any tips you may have to share with us all.

Heeee Marcel! Jij ook hier?

It was your article that inspired me to contact Mark and take a 5-day course in his workshop! And a second one. And then it all got out of hand........

Measure once, cut straight away and maybe you're lucky......
