<p>I can highly recommend getting the book by Gerry Hayes if you haven't already.</p>

<p>Was just thinking about your electrics problems, the most likely culprits are probably the volume and tone pots and the pickup selector switch. Try cleaning these with contact cleaner spray, it might just get some life back in the system, I did just that recently with a friend’s Strat copy that had been sitting unplayed and neglected for years and which he didn’t want to spend too much money on. Might get it going enough to assess what needs replacing.</p>
