I have many happy memories of Blackpool Pleasure beach in the 70/80's but I'm willing to bet it's far from the same place now...

@rockpile99 It was once quite a good place to visit back in the day. Originally, just like Brighton, Scarborough etc, these seaside resorts were geared up for when all the factories closed for a week in the summer to take all of their staff and families for a holiday. Since the 70’s, with the introduction of cheap air travel abroad, things started to go downhill. Blackpool is now geared up for nightlife, stag dos, hen dos and lots of social problems with local residents. It’s a really deprived town for many who live there, a lot of crime, drugs, prostitution etc and all the knock-on effects that come with those issues. The Pleasure Beach is an entertainment/amusement park with lots of rides and arcades. It is home to “The Big One” rollercoaster that is/was the biggest in the UK. If you like that kind of thing, it’s there for the taking but don’t stay out after dark. People are mugged at knife point, injured and occasionally killed. There is a high suicide rate, extreme poverty for many and very little investment where it is actually needed. A conservative point of view will suggest that there is plenty of investment in Blackpool. It’s just not improving a lot of peoples’ lives. The reality is that it is a very run down town and although post cards and online photos may paint it a pretty picture, it’s a far cry from its glory days.

This is Boo, reporting from Blackpool in Lancashire, UK.

Now back to my colleagues the studio!

And now the weather. It’s cold and miserable, have a nice evening! 😁
