It’s a valid thought @russ and one I had had myself - ie giving them away to an organisation like that.

But, I’d then spend another £300+ on replacement parts for the next build rather than recycling the parts from the donor guitar.

I could buy a reasonable guitar for less money, and give that away, and the organisation would probably have a better guitar!

Another way to recycle them is to give them to someone that could use them rather than demolishing them.😱 There's an organisation in Glasgow that gives free lessons and instruments to kids that can't afford them. There might be something similar near you. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Just a thought.

I have reached the point where I have enough guitars.

I know, I know, guitarists should never admit to having "enough" guitars, but I've said it now!

I could even make a case for having too many - sssshhhh!

But I'd quite like to build some more. Not because I need more guitars, but just because I enjoy the process of building them. And building more would make the problem worse.

I'm not going to bother trying to sell the excess - I'm guessing the market value for an unbranded self-build is probably somewhat lower than the cost / value of the components.

So I'm thinking it's time to start recycling the self-builds that don't get playing time for whatever reason.

The only real challenge is going to be disassembling the set neck guitars, but as the bodies are probably the component that will be recycled via the wood burner, I guess I can cut those out and then trim the heel area of the neck ready for reuse. Pots might be a bit messy unless I can clean off the excess solder, but those are cheapy cheap so could be sacrificed rather than saved.

Anyone else got into the guitar recycling phase?
