DIY Drum Sander

Hi everyone,

Having looked at a few second hand drum sanders, I'm having a go at building one based on these plans:

I happen to have a 1/2HP pump motor, and some drive belt bits and pieces (ex Morris Minor fan belt!). I'll let you know if it's any good!

Anyone else had a shot at this?

Fret Slotting Blade

Hey gang,

I just ordered a StewMac circular saw blade for fret slotting, as well as a fret scale template to make a jig.

I can't find an answer to wether I can fit it to my Festool TS-55 ? (I haven't yet bought the CMS table for it, in case I can't). I may have to just get a separate contractor's table saw.

As we are now 'living in the future' it seems crazy not to at least explore the world of CNC for the home guitar builder

It is a subject I am becoming more interested in as time goes on...with the latest wave of machines from China you can get started for just a few hundred pounds it almost seems crazy not to have one. However I am sure there are many pitfalls and trash tools to waste money on.

Lets see if we can cut through a lot of the BS and find the best available machines and software out there!

Is there a minimum required size of drum sander?

Is the 16" Jet too close to soundboard dimensions, for instance?

Unfortunately my original chisel was discontinued by Stewmac - they called it the 'Guitar Makers Chisel'...glad I got two!
