I am starting my luthier journey and have had 2 slotted rosewood fretboards, one at 24.75 and one at 25.5 for scale lengths. Each has arrived as a beautiful piece of wood, and in the first instance I was emailed to check I didn’t need a nut slot. Great customer service and great speed of delivery. Until I am brave enough to radius a blank with hand plane and cut the slots, I will be returning. Thank you Mark and Carol

    Question

    HarryKyriacou

Hi I’ve left an email but no response: I was wondering how much it costs to have a dot inlay put when I buy the fretboard (if thats possible). Similarly, if I buy a neck blank could I have a small headstock inlay put in too? Unfortunately I don’t have a router that can do that fine work, and I’m not sure its worth buying one for a single build

    Question

    michaelgowans57

Hi, read the reviews and like the idea of pre-made fretboard. You have already answered about the widths 43 to 56 and you make a tad bigger for sanding, sounds good. What about the Nut? I prefer standard nut (like Les Paul) and not a slot should I just ask for this on check out? also I made my own neck template for 25.5″ scale and found 21 frets is all I need, 22 is to near the heel, can you cut 21 frets for me? also just in case please confirm the overall length from the nut, as on your standard fretboard.

      Hi Michael
Unless I am specifically asked to cut a 1/8″ nutslot (Fender style) we cut the fretboard at the zero fret (Gibson Style). I can cut as many frets as you like – just make a note at checkout with your req.
If I am making a fretboard with 21 frets then I would cut it at the 22nd fret position. With your 25.5″ scale then the overall length would be 465.95mm or 18.344″ approximately 🙂

Hope that helps – if you have any more Q’s just ask!

Hi Mark!..I was enquiring about you pre slotted electric guitar fretboards. I’m after a AAA grade ebony fretboard, 25.5″ scale length, 46mm at first fret, 56mm at last (22nd) fret. Are you able to offer compound radius? 12″ to 16″ Compound Radius (304.8 mm to 406.4 mm)? Would you also be able to offer supply and fit of MOP or Abalone dot markers? Looking for delivery asap on this one! Many thanks! Russell

Hello Mark ! Do you still cut the taper without extra cost? How much more will you charge for cutting the inlay slots? Thank you ! 🙂

Yes – Just leave a note at checkout to let me know the dimensions…If you want to go with my standard taper it it 43mm at the nut and 56mm at the last fret. I always make them a tad larger than that to account for sanding. I will email you separately about the inlays – it depends what you are looking for.

I’ll explain about the inlays in the email – there would be a charge for making the holes for the inlays – there are options…I’ll basically need to know what size, material and whether or not you want me to install them or just drill the holes.

5 out of 5 Impecable Service and Product

    ashleyjsmith1996

A great piece of timber machined perfectly, I ordered an Ebony fretboard and it has a lovely even colour and was tapered to my desired nut width and heel width. Can’t think of a better equivalent service, that accommodates to the customer like guitar making does. Delivery is fast too, the order was placed in the afternoon and was dispatched the next day.

5 out of 5 Great fretboard and great service.

    Jonathan Parman

Thanks to guitarmaking.co.uk for a great fretboard. The service was first class both on the phone and with the product as Mark cut it to taper at no extra cost and also fitted the dot markers for me. The quality of the timber and the work on it is very high. It was the one piece l didn’t want to tackle on my build. Thanks for a great product.

Hi Mark, just wondering how many fret slots there are on these premade fretboards? I’ve designed a guitar that I want to build but it has 24 frets,

      Hi Ashley
I usually cut all 24 to give you the option – for a standard 22 fret you can cut off the extra frets.
You can also make a note at checkout if you have any special requirements – specify the width of the neck and I will cut the taper for you (no charge) – I always make them slightly oversized so you can adjust to suit.

      Your design looks awesome!

Thanks Mark, it looks like you provide an excellent service. I guess I’m still unsure about what exact measurements I’m going with on the neck and heel width, the current design is based on my squier telecaster’s measurements but I really like the neck on one of my friend’s 2003 Epiphone Riviera so I’m probably going to take some measurements from that.

Beautiful piece of rosewood, exactly sized and perfectly slotted. Standard Bailey quality!! My order consisted of a fretboard, truss rod and a routing bit. It came including a truss rod fillet and even two pins for locating the fretboard when gluing!

I ordered a rosewood fingerboard from Mark he asked me if he could cut the taper at no extra charge I gave him the measurement about 2 days later I lined it on my plan it was spot on to my drawing . What more can I do apart from polish the top face .I nearly forgot he supplied 2 copper pins for when I glue it to the neck as well . Thank you again for a very good service.

5 out of 5 Premade Rosewood fretboard

    james.chacewater@gmail.com

As this is the first guitar I’ve made (apart from a diabolical kit guitar that ended up as firewood so doesn’t count) I took Mark’s advice and ordered a premade fretboard from him and I’m so glad I did! Not only is it beautifully made (the slots are cut with such precision), the wood is gorgeous. Seeing how it curves with the 12″ radius across the fretboard there is no way I’d have been able to make one myself. It’s been invaluable to use as a template to check my measurements while designing and making the neck too – giving me confidence that my guitar is coming along as it should.

I asked Mark to make a rosewood board for me with extra rosewood bleeding onto the head. It arrived today and it’s a beautiful thing – lovely grain, absolutely to spec and expertly made.
