RE: A learning day

@nsj duuuuuuude!!!! I have been trying to think of a better way than my scroll saw to do that. What speed do you run it on when cutting the covers? Plastic I assume or are you making wooden covers?

RE: A learning day

@rathius wooden covers, often to match the top. That router is set on 4 out of 6. No idea what the actual speed is. This one has an oak top, I laminated a piece of the oak to mahogany to make the c...

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@swepri A letter code may be used to identify which taper is used, but the letter code definitions are not standardized. Now that thats cleared up, I'll see if I can find another can of worms to op...

@robin Sorry for hijacking your thread. 😳 Anyway, here is a snippet from Wikipedia on the potentiometer issue: "A letter code may be used to identify which taper is used, but the letter code ...

@swepri me three but they've always been A for audio and B for linear. No idea where anyone buys the back to front crazy pots lol

@tv101 excuse me, I'd like to buy some pots off you, could you send them out so I can test them before paying? Thanks 🤣

@nsj I've got to ask, where did you find these weirdo pots? These were amongst a job lot of harnesses from ebay, somebody clearing out their junk boxes. I've only got myself to blame.

As the man says in the book (which was literally within arm's reach when I read your post!) "my advice is to ignore any codes and test".

So, that's a "maybe" ?? The answer - of course - is just to ignore the tone pots. Never use them ... 😉

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

Same here, I look for LOG or AUDIO when buying pots, not A or B.

According to the book, C is usually code for reverse LOG pots.

@robin I've got to ask, where did you find these weirdo pots? 🤣 I generally stick with alpha and cts for the most part as I can get both in metric which means an 8mm shaft, the metal nobs I...

@swepri every pot for guitar I ever see is either china, japan or usa made anyway, can't say I've ever seen a european pot. Seen reference to vintage pots using a C though lol

@nsj how sure are you? I'm as sure as absolutely certain.

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

Yeah same here, I never heard about this, but that does not mean it does not exist of course. For guitar I always use LOG anyway, so I order LOG pots specifically.

I have seen both, but did not think too much about it before reading this book, where it is explained a bit more:

@robin how sure are you? It's how they sound that I notice them. Audio taper sounds gradual, Linear sounds like a switch lol. Every A and B pot I've used has sounded as it should.
