Could you just put like masking tape to make sure glue doesnt go into what seems to be “stacked metal plates” during the gluing process?
Maybe put some bees wax on the bits where you don’t want the glue to stick.

@dav Trussrods do not need to be pretty! 🙂 Check for a snug fit and the function so it works both directions and that the slot for the hex key is ok.
