Pantera is one of metal’s most iconic bands. They are considered the fathers of so-called ‘groove metal’, a subgenre of thrash metal made famous by groups such as Metallica and Slayer. Pantera’s biggest hits such as Cowboys from Hell and Vulgar Display of Power are still headbanging favorites today, even years after the tragic death of frontman Dimebag Darrell.

Pantera is a heavy metal band formed in 1981 by the Abbott brothers, drummer Vinnie Paul and guitarist Dimebag Darrell. The group also included bassist Rex Brown and vocalist Terry Glaze. After the release of their debut album Power Metal in 1988, they inducted Phil Anselmo as their new frontman to give their music a heavier sound and later released Cowboys from Hell and Vulgar Display of Power.

With their albums, they established themselves as the fathers of Groove Metal, a subgenre of thrash metal made famous by bands like Metallica and Slayer. However, their success was not without its controversies and the band eventually broke up in 2003 after internal conflicts between Anselmo and Darrell.

This new sound helped them release albums like Power Metal and Cowboys from Hell which was a big success.

After this success, things started to fall apart within the band. The tension between Phil Anselmo and Dimebag Darrell began to show and eventually the band decided to break up in 2003. This was mainly due to communication problems. Dimebag Darrell was killed on stage in December 2004 which put an end to any chances of the band reuniting.
