RE: Source for carbon stiffeing rods?

I don't know what timescale they do it over, but I know PRS let their necks sit for a period after each stage of shaping so they can assess how they move and fix any issues. I just looked at your face...

RE: Source for carbon stiffeing rods?

I was looking at square rods, not sure if they would act more like the strips. But quite frankly, if a 2mm strip will do the job, I'll go with that, sourcing them at a reasonable price seems to be a l...

RE: Source for carbon stiffeing rods?

To prove the point. Now it's routine. Flat Blanks get to dry out for a few years after felling/sawing/planing (i plane close grain woods oversize when green) in open air then later into dry room @ 45%...

Nice jig. Is there a reason you choose to shape the outline of the neck before routing for carbon and trussrod?

Loads. I'll sort later. The greatest advantage is not having to square workpiece because only the centre line matters - as long as clamps get a purchase along the edge. NEC tape helps as well.

RE: Source for carbon stiffeing rods?

Be very careful when introducing cutter into wood and don't cut more than 2mm per run. My Router runs on a guide/sled which makes it more secure than running along the edge. Adjustable arms hold/clamp...

RE: Source for carbon stiffeing rods?

@eddie6string That‘s interesting, I never would have thought of a 2 mm wide strip but it makes sense. Just like a board, lay it flat and it bends like a saw blade but up on its edge, stiff as err, mor...

RE: Source for carbon stiffeing rods?

My Triton Router works fine. 2mm cutter with 1/4" 6mm shank. Due to machine vibration, you will always get a little clearance above the 2mm (you could use any thickness) required - just right for acco...

Thanks Interesting, what's your method for cutting the slots (seems a bit narrow for a router)?

RE: Source for carbon stiffeing rods?

Forget Rod - I found it had an element of flex before any significant resistance was engaged. I use 2mm strips. Two per Neck approx 6 - 8mm deep. If you try and bend strip along it's edge you encount...

Maybe the customer wouldn’t realise if an air guitar was handed to him/her instead of a transparent guitar. If it was me I'm sure I would. The improved tone and lack of bum notes would be a dead give...
