@clinton thanks so much for all of that. Since this is my very first build I’m going to go ahead and purchase a TOM bridge só I don’t need to make modifications for the course. However, I really want to… Read more»

@swepri for my very first build I want to follow the course. So I opted to purchase a TOM bridge and 3×3 tuners. However I’ll still use my P90 pickups

Nominal routing depth for neck pockets for fender style bridges with 21-22mm thick neck blanks, 5-6mm fretboards. Start off at 18mm, check to see where you need to go route deeper 0.5 to 1 mm at a time to attain… Read more»

@kalimar I use neck blanks that are 40mm thick and I consider that a minimum thickness for my necks. They have a 9 degree headstock angle in 3+3 format, with a small volute. The first one I built was laminated… Read more»

@kalimar Are you going to make a set neck or a bolt-on? If you make the set neck like in the course (starting with about the same blank size), you will have plenty of material in the heel area to… Read more»

Ah cool! I’m still watching the videos so I’m hoping to better understand the process of making the neck.
thanks! -

I haven’t gotten that far watching the classes yet @NSJ – does Mark cover how to make the neck with a low angle and a volute?

NSJ replied to the topic "How much harder am I making this in myself" – 3 years, 3 months ago
@kalimar But your fender type bridge is easier because you don’t need any neck angle, that bridge you have looks very simple and maybe good for a first go.

@kalimar I’ve done them with a 35mm blank doing a 3 + 3 headstock with a low angle and volute, worked great.

Oh cool! I also caught during the wood demonsioning video mark say that the neck can be between 40-50mm.im at 45 so I might be just right!
Thanks for telling me about the scarf joint!

@kalimar If the piece is long enough, you can cut off a piece to glue to thicken headstock or do a scarf joint. It is done all the time.

Thanks @clinton – I may opt to purchase a tuno-matic in that case. Mainly because this is my very first build from scratch 😀
Cheers and all the best -
Clinton replied to the topic "How much harder am I making this in myself" – 3 years, 3 months ago
@kalimar surely can. With P-90s you are gonna need a smaller diameter flush trim bit and with fender style bridge, no neck break angle but completely straight with neck string height of 11.5-12mm as opposed to 16mm for tune o… Read more»
