Todays livestream should be 'fun and frantic' - I'm going to attempt to glue AND complete gluing and trimming back the headstock veneer LIVE.
Can't help showing off a bit more of Roland's 400 YR Old Walnut...Headstock veneers - bring yer best Q's - cheers folks!
Measure twice, cut once...
There was a discussion about veneers on the back of the headstock and Mark asked to post a photo. It's not a great pic as I couldn't get closer without creating a shadow. Restoration of a not very expensive Framus but it's a family heirloom which had a chip out of the headstock including the veneer, no truss rod cover and a long crack in the rib.
The owner wanted to make it playable leaving some of the wear and tear. I got the back veneer from Timberline in England as plain white wood with no figure and had to blend it in with the slight volute. It was to cover up screw holes from 3 different sets of tuners that had been fitted. Resprayed the neck to blend it in.
Also had to replace the damaged front ebony, make new inlays and source a Framus logo. Then clear coat over the whole thing.
Some people call me a tool, others are less complimentary. Tools being useful things.
Just watched the second half of today’s session on catch-up.
Wow - that fretboard is looking stunning!!

I could glue on a thicker piece then surface route it down to veneer thickness
I'm just wondering ... you'd use the router to get yourself out of a problem situation that the router got you into ??
😆
I've got various bits of veneer here. I'd happily put a headstock-sized piece in the post for you. Light, or dark?

Just watching the catch up - work getting in the way again. I need to retire.
anyway some news on the Deej guitars and hopefully getting back into it with a bonus for buyers.
🤫
I will reveal all soon. But that’s me and this is all about Bailey 👍🏻
I have too many guitars...said no one in the world..ever!

That would be fantastic, a peice of dark please, it's a mahogany neck. I was a bit wary of hitting it with the router again. I'm running out of time to have this guitar finished. I'm home from the caravan and sorting my garage to have a working space. I'm having surgery to repair my hiatus hernia in two weeks time, so starting 14 days self isolation tomorrow, then it's going to be a few weeks recovery before I can get guitar building again. I'm aiming to have it at least playable during my recovery. Did we figure out how to private message on here? My email is robingosman@gmail.com if you send me an email, I can reply with my postal address.
I can recommend retirement, I wish I'd done it sooner.
I just-about retired a few years ago.
But then I lapsed. Moved house (to something needing money spent on it) and then people offered me work.
🙁
