When using a maple fretboard I know it should have clear shot on it but when is the best time to do so? I know Mark says somewhere to do it before fretting. Would it then be best before or after installing the dots? Also, would it be better to install the side dots before or after spraying clear on the fretboard?

@rathius

I would fit all the dots fisrt, you're going to want to sand them flat.

That’s what I was thinking would be best. Thanks for confirming that for me.

@rathius fender fit everything including the frets then spray, then carefully scrape the finish off the frets. I can't help thinking the finish will get messy fitting frets after. Especialy as you have to level, crown and polish. I'm still working my way through Marks vids though, might be on one of the finishing vids.

Ps I'm just watching one of his vids just now and in the background is a maple neck all finished but without frets!
