It's about time to shape and slot a new nut for the extremely slow build. Clamping the thing when shaping, marking and so on has been frustrating. So, I finally made a little holder to make that fiddly work easier. Not unique in any way but relatively easy to make and it works great. It is made to fit in a larger vise or to use freehand, if using some kind of sanding machine to shape the nut. Oak, some aluminium, a M6 screw with a knob, and a threaded insert. And a bit of brass rod in the pivot point.

I remember the FastCap motto: "Fix what bugs you". πŸ™‚

@swepri - this question probably demonstrates my complete missing of your point, but I'll ask it anyway ...

What's the advantage of your jig over an ordinary small (hobby makers) vice?

I don't know, because I don't have a small vise narrow enough for shaping nuts.Β  😉 But it is excellent to use handheld instead of pliers when using the oscillating bandsander and trying to save the fingertips.
