First Practice Build
@robin That is a stunning guitar build from scrap wood. I don’t think there is any scrap wood really, we can all find a use for almost any wood, not always for guitars though. Nobody would know that any of that wood you have used was just something that had been under your caravan for years. I think it looks amazing and I bet you feel great that you have completed your first build, it’s a great feeling isn’t it? Well done sir and I’m glad you are back to fighting fitness.
Make guitars, not war 🌍✌️🎸

Thanks Boo, the mahogany that the cap is made from was given to me by a friend years ago, it was part of the floor of his boat that he had scrapped. His exact words at the time were "You'll find a use for that some day".
You've built it in pretty quick time
Thanks Russ. Iv'e just checked back to see when I started, the first photo of loose bits of wood was in the middle of August, so that's been a full three months. I'll maybe not rush the next one.
That looks like a great piece of work @robin. Big congratulations to you.
Not a bad place to start either - semi-hollow, set neck. I was a few years into my guitar building journey before I attempted something that complicated.
You were absolutely right about the f hole placement too. I think I prefer the lower one where you’ve put it, so it doesn’t conflict with placement of the controls.
Just one thing ... I do worry a little ... since you pulled that wood out from under the caravan, is it now leaning over at a dodgy angle??

Thanks Tony. I didn't really choose the complexity of the build, it just kind of evolved with wood I had available and I certainly learnt a lot during the process. Yes, I like the f holes, it looks like they belong there, rather than positioned to cut out nail holes and iron stains. As for the caravan, it doesn't lean too badly, we just can't shut any of the doors now. I might as well use them to build an extension to my hut.
That’s a lovely build, well done. I like the neck joint, very smooth
Thanks Peebee, that shape was a bit accidental, I had to keep cutting away to get rid of a notch I dug with the router. Now that I've played it a bit, I might round off that corner on the back of the body, not that I'm fretting up at these dizzy heights very often.
@vertigo
Robin, glad to hear that your feeling better, you must be stoked how the guitar has turned out, let us know how it sounds and does it sound as expected?
Thanks Steve, thats six weeks since surgery, I'm not up to full strength yet, but feeling great. I'm so pleased with the guitar and sounds good to me. I'm not a player though, still learning, so can't really do it justice.
