A post from @TV1010101 prompted me to set up this thread.

Do you like pedals to get your sound

What pedals do you use.

Do you like guitar straight into the amp And nothing else

Do you use the amps effects loop

Do you use pedals in an unusual way to create something different in sound?

What’s on your pedal board now or what’s been there in the past

Most definitely big yay! This was my prior and it fits in a guitar hardshell case. Mostly boss and a few digitechs and 1 dodd. Very Pink Floyd/Radiohead Sonos sounds back then.

Do you like guitar straight into the amp And nothing else

Most of my playing is done this way.  On the rare occasions that I've played "gigs", that's all I've used too - perhaps with the addition of a drive pedal or a amp-channel switcher.

But then most of my playing is for my own amusement (and/or my wife's annoyance) and I'm not trying to emulate anyone else or achieve a particular sound, so my needs are modest.

I've experimented with various fx in the past, but I've tended to try the all-in-one approach of getting something with loads of buttons and switches and colourful menus ... and then quickly got lost in the depths of those menus, aimlessly changing parameters, or just flicked through the pre-sets!

Most recently I've bought a Boss ME80 and I'm getting on a lot better with it.  It's a lot simpler, menu buttons are not needed, I don't have to connect it to a PC, and it's all pretty intuitive.

But even with that, I probably spend as much time knob twiddling as I do string strumming ...

My current pedal board. Behringers, Donners and Tom’s line pedals.

@tv1010101 The ME80 COSM amp settings parameters are quite nice for recording especially. Digital but sounds analog. Tera delay on it very space. Sorry I’m a pedal dork.

@deej I used to use pedals a lot and I have a lot but in recent years I’ve decided to try out some of the new digital practice amps that have everything built in as well as amp and effects apps for iPad. I think they sound great and will do for bedroom playing. I do like the sound of the more organic tones from just a guitar and amp (valve) too. I’ll dig out some or all of my pedals and take some pics.

I love pedals - have owned (and sold on) loads over the years - have also modded and built from kits and scratch.....

Currently have a few, mostly mods or builds, only use occasionally because of the stack built into the AX8.

Had some classics - faves were Boss DC-2, SD-2 and CE-2 - did some really good mods on DS-1 and SD-1.

Measure once........ Measure again......... Sod it - make tea!

Still nothing beats a straight plug in on a tube amp with just enough gain for dynamic playing control. Ok maybe a tiny hint of reverb.

I had an Dodd envelope filter once and in search for it again. Really puts your guitar in a whole new world. Great for bass as well.
Rat pedal drive/distortion still my fave especially for single coils finally broke down, very clear sounding. Dunlop wah is a beast and my trusted 30 year old Boss chromatic tuner that powers up your pedal board that I will take to the grave with me.

@Clinton I know what you mean with the Dodd I had a sonic stomp pedal that I through through my vox effects loop together with an eq pedal and it was like taking a blanket of it.

These are my favourite pedals at the moment but only used to record at home hence the plastic still on them....

This is still the go to though

it’s a beast live as you can go straight to FOH and just use the cab as a monitor.

@clinton it’s the most naturally feeling modeller and it actually feels like a valve..loads of versatility, particularly live. In performance mode just set up your rig and save to a button. No more pedal surfing when live..

It also has a great morph feature that you can go in one sound on the amp to another using a foot Volume pedal so say from a crunch to lead. It’s really nice not to have a clunk when you swell it up as it’s sounds more natural than hitting another stomp. It’s a bit like using the volume on the guitar.

That’s the rack version. The toaster version (you’ll know why it’s called that when you see one) is also great..
