RE: Next project - a rebuild

@tv101 An absolute improvement over the old finish! I agree that the cavity cover should look better with same grain direction as the body. But is it possible to throw away the old one? It's shaped li...

RE: Next project - a rebuild

@tv101 Very nice, I like the natural finish. I don't think that wood of the cavity cover necessarily has to match the body but I do prefer the grain in the same direction.

@nsj Loads more adjustment too, I always fit new strings on a new build. At least it helps rule the problem out if there is a problem. Another lesson learned, my setting up strings are in the bin n...

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

Good news, the intonation is fine now. I put on a new set of 10's. Had to flatten the E & A at the bridge, the other four didn't need any adjustment. No need to move the bridge post, panic over. ...

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@brie, sometimes it can be enough just to sink the top of the bridge posts into the body. Most posts have a wider bit that sits on top of the body. Maybe only 2-3mm thick, but than can be 2-3mm too ...

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@swepri It could be worth checking the A string nut slot to make sure the string leaves crisp right at the end of the slot. Thats a good call, I'll check that when I'm changing the strings.

@brie I’ve often pondered the question of sinking a bridge into the body as an alternative to achieving an accurate neck back angle to give a nice low string action. Seems viable to me but , as I’m ...

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@robin if the strings are old they could be causing intonation problems, I had a bad G with a set of elixir and they were brand new! Intonation was awful. New string and boom! Sorted. The A string ...

@robin just leave loads of winds on the pegs, that way you can reuse them if it doesn't fix the problem. I don't really worry about tuning stability at that stage, just saving the strings lol

@robin I think it would get worse with thicker strings, needing longer free length. Maybe a bridge with a little more adjustment range could fix it? If you have another A string, you could try that fi...
