@boo, can you explain why the ordinary tins of chameleon paints seem to be so much more expensive than the spray cans? I’d expect it to be the other way round if anything.Custom Paints Chromacoat 400ml spray can £19.99 500ml… Read more»

I bet a lot of forum members are sick of the sight of the “Recent Posts” being clogged up with this thread every day. @boo I’d say that’s more an issue with the system than the posts, it would probably… Read more»

Also, can anybody explain to me why there is an Edit button on posts that doesn’t do anything? Either let me fix typos or stop teasing me!

It’s got some inbuilt, signature light relicing if that’s what you mean. They are not mistakes at all, honest
@boo That’s can be the hardest to achieve, you are a true artisan.

Ah oh! That’s this job out the window then.
@Boo, sometimes the situation calls for a fine wine, other times a drinkable plonk is perfect! 😀

Some might say it’s OTT but that’s flipping crazy (or is that just me?). Exciting times. For me the secret for getting away with extreme looks is they have to look even better when you look closer, revealing craftsmanship and… Read more»

From the description of the process in the video it seems what we’d need is someone with a CNC machine and the equipment to laminate films together.Remind you of anyone we know?

@boo
If you want OTT, burst one of these to flip flop paint.

@boo I look forward to seeing your results.I think the guitar in the video might have looked even cooler if Derek had done multicolour sandback stain finish on the main part of the body, they can look pretty flip-flop in… Read more»

@boo I actually wondered if they painted the very edge matt black, but faded it out before the flip flop coat starts to fade, to give a really intensive result on the edges.

Thats very clever – and very special looking too. @tv101For me the intriguing thing is that normally that sort of flip flop paint needs a matt black base to work (and this one is working very well), but they… Read more»

@robinI’m going to try the aquacoat grain filler (it’s quite pricey, but it’s the only clear one I can find). Another possibility might be adding microballoons to some carrier, which I’ve seen Chris from Highline Guitars talking about in a… Read more»

@Rocknroller912Chestnut is the melamine lacquer I have. Can you recall if you used their cellulose or acrylic sealers?

Jonathan Hodgson replied to the topic "Any advice on hand applied topcoat methodology?" – 4 years, 3 months ago
@rocknroller912ThanksI’ve done a quick test piece of melamine lacquer so far, just enough to start to get an idea of its characteristics, but your info will be very useful.What sort of sealer did you use?

@boo, your test plan is a good idea, I was thinking along those lines. The other advice you gave will probably be largely applicable too, thanks.
