Fret slot jig

@darrenking what’s the restriction on width of your fret slot guide, looking to make a fretboard for a 7 string electric, I don’t have final measurements yet as I’m being indecisive about the bridge!?

RE: Jigs, patterns, and lines on paper

Jack socket hole has been drilled. I ended up buying another 7/8" bit which worked much better than the one that came in the set.

@wayne_f For reference for drilling the routing holes through the body I used a 10mm argur bit with a drill that has a max unloaded speed of 1650RPM and 65NM of tourqe. Apprectiate you dind't have an ...

RE: Jigs, patterns, and lines on paper

I've hit another speed bump. Yesterday I bought a small set of auger bits. I did a test on some scrap and the bit jammed up almost immediately. Today I went back to the store and bought a 7/8" spade b...

Okay. Problem solved. I made a couple shims and then glued and sanded them. Now the neck fits nice and snug like it should.

Posted by: @wayne_f Shimming would probably be the best solution, right? @wayne_f Yeah, glue a veneer of equal thickness on each side of the neck heal. When dry, test fit the neck to see if you hav...

@wayne_f Shimming would probably be the best solution, right? I think we've all done that, the neck can be a good tight fit in the routing template but the pocket ends up bigger. Take a shaving of...

Routed the neck pocket today but not quite to full depth. Then I went to see how the neck would fit. That's when I was hit with a little disappointment. The neck heel sits loose in the pocket. Att...

@wayne_f glad you sorted the fret problem, I was looking at making a fret bender so clearly something to keep in mind. It’s looking really clean though, good work!

Also, if you watch closely, you might catch a slight mechanical mishap with a piece of equipment (which I forgot to edit out. oops)

To clarify, I bought (from StewMac) medium/high fret wire as opposed to medium/medium. This means that not only is the crown higher but also the tang is longer.

@wayne_f Good video thanks for sharing it with us. I’ve had that fret problem in the past where it goes down on one side. Could it be that the barbed part it too wide for the slot perhaps. I got round...

Looks to me like you need more solid support underneath the neck to stop it bouncing or bending when you hit it. 🤔

Perhaps pull it out and try again? I had already pulled it out once before taking that picture. @wayne_f Ahhhhh….. Yes, pull it out carefully and clean the slot again. I would perhaps cut another fr...

@tej @robin @cheesewhisk @boo Fret slots are definitely clean and deep enough. Looking closer at the fret now, it appears to be on an angle. The side that's facing the heel end looks like it's farther...
