I write/draw on my MDF top with pencil - rub it with 80 grit to remove - bit of paper seem to hide/blow off onto the floor/get tea spilt on them.

Will definitely outlive most of us.... I do like and use Mark's idea of a replaceable MDF top - I have just flipped mine over to use the second side.
