RE: What would you like to see next? @markbailey What I think is worth exploring more would be a more in-depth look at nut making. When making guitars, I always buy a new nut and hope it fits. If the nut is slightly too high, I just sand... |

RE: Nut Files I think @markbailey should do a “nut making, setup and maintenance course”. I think making a nut from a blank is an art in itself and should be explored further. |

RE: Nut Files Posted by: @mattbeels I like the double edge files. Two sizes each with a handle and they have a V shape which helps to open up the top of the string slot, they suck for a PRS nut though. Keep in min... |

RE: Neck shims Posted by: @tej thanks, I’ll have a go at making some first but at least those are a sensibly priced option @tej No probs. When I spotted these, I thought of you. Knowledge is power. 👍 |

RE: Neck shims Posted by: @marcel But these shims are flat, so they don't change the neck angle. So if you want to change the neck angle you have to sand a taper on the shim before using it. @marcel Yeah, I used t... |

RE: Neck shims Posted by: @rocknroller912 Ive made a very rough sketch of how I would estimate the finished taper in wood. @rocknroller912 Thanks for that, makes perfect sense 🙂 |

RE: Neck shims @tej 40mm is fine it’s actually easier with a small plane |

RE: Neck shims @rocknroller912 I’ll give that a go and see how I get on. I’ll likely need a cabinet scraper to finish it as I don’t have anything to do that with and my plane is only about 40mm wide. |

RE: Neck shims @tej Ive made lots of shims by hand, it’s not that hard. Start with a piece that’s longer and thicker than you need and clamp it to the bench. Then plane or scrape it working away from the clamp to cr... |
