RE: Another one

Neck blank has been routed, trussrod fitted and fretboard glued, I can get on with that tomorrow or something but in the meantime I've been out and levelled the top of the body blank then cut it out. ...

RE: Next project - a rebuild

@tv101 Not saying it's terrible, just maybe not as good as having an actual piece of the wood lol. Worst case in this context 🤣 🤣

RE: Next project - a rebuild

@NSJ - don't really see that as a worst case option TBH - I've got a load of veneers here waiting for a use!

RE: Next project - a rebuild

@tv101 Worst case you could maybe use random wood then add a veneer to match the top?

RE: Next project - a rebuild

Thanks @robin @swepri @boo Agree - I need to find a better matched piece of wood. I used up some "spare" bits making this one, working out how to get the shape out of the spare piece of wood rather t...

RE: Next project - a rebuild

@tv101 An absolute improvement over the old finish! I agree that the cavity cover should look better with same grain direction as the body. But is it possible to throw away the old one? It's shaped li...

@robin Loads more adjustment too, I always fit new strings on a new build. At least it helps rule the problem out if there is a problem.

@robin Excellent, I’m pleased it easily worked out for you without having to do anything drastic. @nsj came through for you. Good call. 👍

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@brie, sometimes it can be enough just to sink the top of the bridge posts into the body. Most posts have a wider bit that sits on top of the body. Maybe only 2-3mm thick, but than can be 2-3mm too ...

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@brie I accidently missed the neck angle on my first guitar and the solution was making a 2mm deep recess under the wraparound bridge. I made the recess larger, with rounded corners and it turned out ...

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@robin Just another thought... It could be worth checking the A string nut slot to make sure the string leaves crisp right at the end of the slot.

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@robin I’ve often pondered the question of sinking a bridge into the body as an alternative to achieving an accurate neck back angle to give a nice low string action. Seems viable to me but , as I’m j...

RE: First Sawdust!!

That dust plus superglue can fix many guitar building mishaps! Bag it! lol

@robin just leave loads of winds on the pegs, that way you can reuse them if it doesn't fix the problem. I don't really worry about tuning stability at that stage, just saving the strings lol
