RE: New Electric BUild

@darrenking I'd be interested in a full size paper print. Iv'e been drawing my next guitar using SolidWorks, but I only have an A4 printer. Can you work from a dxf file, or what would be best for you...

And a preview, with the neck template and bridge sitting in place, of what it might look like. Attachment : 20200903_170516.jpg

RE: First practice build

@tv1010101 Iv'e just found this template on my internet pop up adverts, looks like I'm not the first to have done out of alignment f holes. I didn't make any progress with it yesterday, the rain stop...

RE: First practice build

@tv1010101 The bottom one is smaller, there's a few reasons why. I originally hadn't intended to have f holes at all. The top one is there and is so large to disguise the three attempts I had pluggin...

RE: First practice build

Iv'e started on the cap for my under the caravan scrapwood guitar. I'd tried unsuccessfully to disguise the black stained nail holes. So with a bit of rethinking and strategic positioning I can remove...

RE: Tidying Up

@frocesterbill Yes it's great for the well being. As I'm working outside a lot of the time, so as not to fill my hut and lungs with dust, my guitar has become a bit of a conversation piece on the cara...

RE: Whoopsie

@tv1010101 I had thought that your scratch plate was another clever peice of wood. So you've answered your own question, having the photo printed on acrylic sounds simpler than waterslide transfers.

@tv1010101 I've just been reading about inkjet waterslide transfers. Someone had made woodgrain effect transfers, I think it was for a model railway wagon. How about taking a photo of the cavity area...

RE: First practice build

@darrenking Yes, I can relate this to sailing again, my time hasn't been totally wasted, the same principal as making a wooden mast or spar.

RE: First practice build

@darrenking Thanks for the advice Darren, I'll certainly check the grain. All I know so far is that it's 144x33.5x1880mm, so I should get something useful out of that.

@darrenking Learning to play guitar and watching Mark's livestreams was only supposed to to pass the time while I was in lockdown and shielding, now the boat is laying neglected while I'm turning bit...

RE: First practice build

@tv1010101 I'll give it a go and time will tell. It'll be a couple of weeks before I can go to collect the mahogany, I should be ready to start the neck by that time.

RE: First practice build

A freind has offered me a piece of mahogany that has been laying in his farm workshop for 15 years. He reckons I could get four necks out of it. It's only 33mm thick, so probably a scarf joint for the...

@johnnierox-boo Thanks John, my router was falling into the cavity doing the larger bit, I'll need to make a wider router base plate soon.

You're all so lucky to have so much cluttered space. I'm working in a 8' x 6' hut that also stores my sailing gear, outboard motors, lawn mower and an increasing collection of bits of wood. So I'm mos...

RE: First practice build

@tv1010101 I did do the tap test, the pine sounded dead. The hardwood did have a ring, despite it being filthy, it had been a part of a boat's floor in a past life, so its well seasoned. Its going to ...
