RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

Same here, I look for LOG or AUDIO when buying pots, not A or B.

According to the book, C is usually code for reverse LOG pots.

@koendb always the same, you go to bed then wake up to another change in what you know to further complicate your life 🤣

@robin I've got to ask, where did you find these weirdo pots? 🤣 I generally stick with alpha and cts for the most part as I can get both in metric which means an 8mm shaft, the metal nobs I...

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@swepri every pot for guitar I ever see is either china, japan or usa made anyway, can't say I've ever seen a european pot. Seen reference to vintage pots using a C though lol

@nsj how sure are you? I'm as sure as absolutely certain.

Yeah same here, I never heard about this, but that does not mean it does not exist of course. For guitar I always use LOG anyway, so I order LOG pots specifically.

I have seen both, but did not think too much about it before reading this book, where it is explained a bit more:

@robin how sure are you? It's how they sound that I notice them. Audio taper sounds gradual, Linear sounds like a switch lol. Every A and B pot I've used has sounded as it should.

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@swepri never seen that yet, I've used all sorts and every A has been audio taper and every B has been linear. Are you sure about the US Euro thing?

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@robin As usual there is a US standard and a rest of the world standard with pots. US pots often use A for LOG and european standard use A for LIN instead. You did the right thing - measure the darn t...

Well the guitar is all back together again and working. There seemed to be a random earthing problem and some tremendous hum. Eventually switched off the laptop charger, that had me going for a while,...

Just buy 10mm acrylic off ebay and make a bigger base, works great. I've done both my trim routers and one I can clamp upside down for doing small jobs. I have the same template set too, used it a few...

@tv101 do you believe carbon rods actually do anything? That somehow they'll stop a neck from twisting if it wants to? Personally I think it's a fad to sell us guitar people more stuff we don't need l...

And that’s why I’ve got a K&K Big Twin to fit inside the guitar body. Two pickups - where should they go? I’ve run a few tests just to see. I stood an electric guitar on top of the guitar body, a...

Oh yes. The Cunning Plan. Another reason for building this guitar is the attempt to smuggle an electric guitar into all those Acoustic Bliss / Folk Night / Open Mic sessions. As we know, all acoustic ...

Interesting to re-read this thread. I've got a neck-blank sized piece of Ash, quarter-sawn and not too heavy which I think I might just use on a future neck build. But maybe with some added carbon fi...
