RE: UK Based Luthier Tools - new supplier

I can't see that being a problem for anyone with a CNC machine capable of cutting metal. I suppose it depends what finish you need (Chrome etc.)

RE: UK Based Luthier Tools - new supplier

Chrome is prohibitively expensive and I think engraving would have to be quite deep to show through three layers of plating - copper, nickel, chrome

RE: UK Based Luthier Tools - new supplier

Thanks @tv101. I was thinking mainly of the standard strat type plate but also the curved edge type on the jaguar could be a possibility. If chrome was too difficult or too expensive I'd maybe think a...

@robin The rumor is true! I used to actually work in one of those fabled places and let me tell you, the only thing worse than the customers was the never ending noise!

@mattbeels @boo Yeah, that’s one way of not improving your soldering skills. Why not just order a pre made neck to go with it? I heard a rumour that there used to be shops where you could buy a wh...

@rocknroller912 No worries, I understand. Guitarists can be really annoying, always having to be the loudest and showing off. It’s pretty lame. Probably always competing with the singer...

I find it amusing that somebody who apparently has no issues with the black art of finishing with different substrates, effects and finishes is so terrified of some soldering!

@boo No worries I think there are some real electronics gurus in the forum so this is the place to ask. I only know the basics which aren’t that hard.

Sorry to be basic, do you know the difference between log and linear. @rocknroller912 Here is the extent of my understanding of pots and wiring. Here are some pots and wires, and then I know nothing....

@rocknroller912 Well I like to use my volume. It’s mostly on full but I like to use it for dynamics like swells or to just clean up the sound. It would be weird to lose that control.

@mattbeels I always wonder why electric players even bother with volume controls they always go full blast - after the sound check and setting the levels of course. Controls just add circuit noise any...

@rocknroller912 Personally I can’t stand linear pots and I also can’t understand why they’re used in guitar circuits especially for the volume, d’oh!

@boo Nothing complicated inside it’s just a carbon track connected to the rotating centre terminal. Either of the outside lugs can be connected to ground depending on which way you want it to turn. So...

Ive got some pots lying around from when I used to be interested in electronics. Was going to have a clear out one day so if you know the value, probably 250 or 500k ohms logarithmic or linear, I’ve p...
