Something that might be of interest to some/many of you ... I recently became aware of these guys;

https://www.dousemachining.co.uk/new-to-us-in-2021/

I'm "in conversation" with Andy there, and suggested that he makes pricing visible, as that's going to be an early Q asked by most.  The products certainly *look* to be of quality, rather than iffy Chinese eBay approximations of the StewMac standards.

Note also that he's open to suggestions of other luthier tools ...

I'll update this thread when I know more, but I've also sent Andy a link to this forum so he may join up himself.

Hey @tv101. They look like very good quality tools. It would be good to see the pricing. Great find.

Thanks I’ve added the site to my favourites list. Also have to say this forum is the most useful thing I’ve ever found in, 39 years,  apart from practical courses.

Some people call me a tool, others are less complimentary. Tools being useful things.

Hey @tv101. Do you think he would make specific parts for guitar? I'm thinking guitar neck plates with a logo engraved.

🙏🎸🎶🙂

great find...

TBH, it'll mostly come down to pricing.  StewMac have got the advantage of their massive home market (and Mark), so have huge economies of scale and brand-premium.

But they've also got the overheads of running a major company.  And we have the hassle of import duty et al.

The UK market is very small volume, so there's never going to be a big business in making/supplying luthier tools to the UK alone.  But as Andy is a long-term guitarist, he's maybe open to helping us humble hobbyists!

@Russ - I'll add that to the list of suggestions!

Are you thinking about one-off neck plates (ie a size/shape different to the standard 4-hole rectangular Fender style), or just engraving of the standard sort?

TBH, either way, I can't see that being a problem for anyone with a CNC machine capable of cutting metal.

I suppose it depends what finish you need (Chrome etc.)

Chrome is prohibitively expensive and I think engraving would have to be quite deep to show through three layers of plating - copper, nickel, chrome

Thanks @tv101. I was thinking mainly of the standard strat type plate but also the curved edge type on the jaguar could be a possibility. If chrome was too difficult or too expensive I'd maybe think about brushed steel.
