I’ve found some really short router template cutters.

Every time I see that Mirka sander in use, I think "I WANT ONE".
£400 (for the powered version), is a bit pricey for something that'd be used for making a few guitars ...

...
but;
1. We've got a lot of house decorating to do, including a lot of paintwork to be rubbed down
2. And repainting all the kitchen cupboards, drawer fronts, etc.
3. It *is* the time of year to be buying presents ...

Just caught up with the bits I missed earlier. Sometimes when I watch Mark make it look so easy, I think.....will I ever be able to do that?....... Only one way to find out I guess.
🙂🎶🎸🙏
PS......I still haven't found an old penny yet. 😕

@tv101 You are not the only one Tony. There are loads of videos I watch on YouTube and when I watch Mark where Mirka sanders are used. I WANT ONE TOO! I could buy a Mirka air sander for my compressor but it’s defeating the object. I want an electric one with Mirka automatic vacuum as well. The trouble is, it would be about £1,000 all in. The discs are not cheap either but I think it’s all worth it. I could have done it this year if it wasn’t for covid! I’m skint! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......... It will have to wait.

If I had the compressor already, I'd have bought the air version a long time ago!
For the electric one, can you not fix it so that turning the sander on auto turns on the vacuum at the same time?
I'll probably just use the sander close to my extraction so I can turn both on/off at the same time.
I often use a Mirka hand sanding block with the abranet sheets now, and that's so much easier and quicker than the traditional sandpaper.

@tv101 I’ve got an 18” Mirka sanding block with Abranet sheets to fit which are left over from when I repaired car bodywork. It is great but the electric sander is something I’ve wanted for a long time. Yeah I could probably rig things up so that an air sander could be used with a vacuum but I would still have to put up with the noise of my compressor and wear ear protection. The reason I want the electric version is for the quiet running and the Mirka vacuum is quiet too so I wouldn’t need the ear protection. I am so careful these days about protecting my hearing, I have tinnitus because of lots of load things in my past.

@tv101 Yeah, it’s all automatic, the two work together. You plug the sander into the vacuum for power and extraction. When you press the paddle to start working with the sander, the vacuum turns on automatically and extracts the dust you are producing.

@tv101 Another reason the electric version is better than the air version is that you don’t have to put up with the airline plugged in to the sander, it can get heavy and irritating.
This is the one I want.

Of course ... d'oh!
My set-up is a lot more basic @boo. I've got an old house-reject hoover in the workshop (which has been running fine for years, so I'm not sure why the "house" rejected it!), as well as a big drum vacuum thing.
But neither has the power take-off thing to auto-switch the extraction.

Actually this is a good deal.

@tv101 With the extractor added in as well, the full setup is actually about £800 give or take, bit better than I thought. It’s still £800 I haven’t got. 🤣

@tv101 This is the extractor.
