Really enjoyed the livestream earlier, can't wait for the next installment!

So, lots of interest in the Mirka - me too. I've tried "palm" sanders before, but never really felt comfortable using them one handed. They're too "tall". The Mirka looked really comfortable to use - confirmed by other reviews I watched. I did leave a comment about it on the YT page But it occurred to me that no one would go back after watching live to read comments, so I'll C/P it here.....

"....BTW Another Youtuber I follow, Peter Millard, has just posted a review of a Mirka knockoff sander from China. Video is here if anyone is interested

I just checked. The Mirka is nearly £422 on Amazon, so the knockoff (at around £150 inc postage) might be worth a look. Link is in the description on Peters review (you have to be signed in to Aliexpress to see the page). He also links to another lookalike by Sealy in the description, costing around £195 (from Amazon)."

Peter also has a review of the Mirka itself :

And a couple of others I watched after posting on YT:

Spoiler alert: They aren't favourable reviews The Mirka seems to have a reliability problem. Some are ok but there are a lot of rogues out there. After seeing these reviews there's no way I'd ever consider getting one, not at £400+, but on reading this thread I discovered they made air tools too. I have a compressor so maybe an air powered version at around £140 would be a good bet for me.

Tried editing my post above to add another link but the forum's not letting me, so...

The link to "Rag n Bone Brown" is when he first got his Mirka. Look at the one below though, it's from a general Q&A where he talks again about the Mirka, around the 7:50 mark.

With the extractor added in as well, the full setup is actually about £800 give or take, bit better than I thought. It’s still £800 I haven’t got. 🤣

@boo

I’d just about managed to persuade myself that £400 wasn’t *too* bad given all the other jobs that I could use the sander for.  Obviously, I probably never *would*, but that’s not the point.

But adding on an extra £400 for the extractor ... nope, that’s not happening!

Now, stop tempting me with tool catalogues.  You’re confusing me with Mark and the StewMac catalogue ...

😆

Thanks for posting @peter-johnson.

As I was watching the review video, I thought "yeah, but this is just one guy's experience".  Then I read the comments and realised that it's not just one experience.

Hmmm.

On the one hand, that's a shame because I'd hoped it was going to be the right choice.  On the other hand, the alternatives are a lot cheaper than £400 (I'm not going to Festool!).

Has anyone had experience with this model? I've noticed that G&W in Portugal supply Indasa Rhynogrip sandpapers.
