Is a 1.5" neck blank thick enough?

Hi friends,

So a few weeks ago (prior to purchasing this course) I bought some sapele lumber and cut the length of 3 neck blanks. At the time I was thinking of attempting to build bolt-on necks so at the time, 1.5" thick 5/4 seemed appropriate. It looks like for this course, the blanks are 2" thick 8/4. Fortunately I have another of these. However if I glue them, I'll then have a very thick blank (which I'll resaw)

Can I get away with the 5/4? Here's also a photo. I believe it's quarter-sawn. thoughts?

Thanks!

@kalimar If the piece is long enough, you can cut off a piece to glue to thicken headstock or do a scarf joint. It is done all the time.

Oh cool! I also caught during the wood demonsioning video mark say that the neck can be between 40-50mm.im at 45 so I might be just right!

Thanks for telling me about the scarf joint!

@kalimar I've done them with a 35mm blank doing a 3 + 3 headstock with a low angle and volute, worked great.
