Ok, I’m bored with band-sawing now!! 95 chair backs later I’ve had enough! I know they’re not guitars, but if I’ve been a bit quiet in the forums over the past week or two here’s one of the reasons why!

@darrenking What’s the matter Darren? Have you not got the legs to finish the job? 😁

@darrenking

Do you sell the chairs through your own business or through another firm

Hi Rocknroller,

About 75% of my turnover is from subcontract manufacturing of vacuum pressed and veneered panels and products. Everything from kitchen cupboard doors, reception desks, achitectural column casings, the plywood feet that go on the bottom of hardcore compactors, zebrano stool seats for Greggs bakeries. We even did most of the veneering for the refit of Lord Sugars yacht a few years ago. Our next project involves a whole stack of curved laminated birch ply panels for a wind tunnel that will be used by the UK cycling team (amongst others) for testing bikes, helmets etc.

kitchen cupboard doors

Really?

Apparently, replacing or repainting the kitchen cupboard doors is on my house-projects-list for next year ...

@tv101 Well you can justify signing up to premium to your wife as you can use the knowledge from the finishing course and apply it to the kitchen cupboard doors etc. It’s all falling into place Tony. 😁

@darrenking

Your business sounds very impressive and it's great that you can adapt it to guitar making. During 2013 I visited the Martin factory in America where all the acoustic bracing is glued using a vacuum press.

Hi Rocknroller
my guitar making adventure had been a long time coming until I found Mark’s courses. It was an amazing and life changing discovery and it had been a dream since I was a teenager.

All the Sheeran by Lowden guitars also have their braces bonded in vacuum presses. I know because they bought them from me. Still couldn’t wangle a discount though!!

Hi TV, when you get this project on the go just send me some drawings and dimensions. I’m sure we can work something out.

Cheers

Darren

@darrenking

I will have to investigate the vacuum press a bit more, it seems like the way forward

Cheers @darrenking - will do.  Fortunately, it's not a very large kitchen!!

I've either got to repaint the existing doors, or replace them.  Quality is Ok, but they've taken a battering through the years.  Even if I repaint them, I fancy doing some contrast ones too - with some inset veneered panels ...

😀

@darrenking Darren, could you make me a neck taper template (pattern) please. I’m sick of getting sloppy neck pockets. I can buy the template set from Mark’s shop but I want a perfectly matching neck taper jig too. Please. Thanks.

Hi Boo,

No problem. Just email me a dimensioned sketch of what you need and I'll machine it over Christmas once all of the parties are over, the theatre and restaurant trips out of the way and all of my extended family and friends have returned to their homes around the UK and worldwide!

(I'll probably end up machining it on Friday!)

Cheers

Darren

Does that mean that I should hold off on booking any exotic foreign holidays on the back of it? 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
