I'm needing a bit of advice on bridge position.
Iv'e marked a line at the 25" scale length. Where do I fit this type of bridge relative to the 25" theoretical line. Also, do the intonation adjustment screws go towards the neck or the tailpiece. And yes, iv'e just noticed that iv'e sat the tailpiece the wrong way round.
With a bridge like that, I’d make sure that the slope of the saddle is towards the tailpiece, but that the adjustment screws are accessible. That normally means that the screw heads are towards the pickup, but that’ll depend on your setup.
Position the bass side a ~3mm towards the tailpiece.
For both, take a look at some Les Pauls (similar bridge) and it’ll give you a guide.
And you’ve sat the tailpiece the wrong way round.

Deja vu...I was going to cover this today also! Spooky
Spooky indeed

Looking at my bridge again, the three bass saddles have the slope away from the tailpiece no matter which way I turn the bridge, should I take these off and reverse them.
I'm not nearly ready for finishing yet, but I'm trying to think ahead. I saw some cheap lacquer in Aldi's a couple of weeks ago so I bought their last three tins to give it a try. It says on the tin that its a rapid drying alkyd resin lacquer. Iv'e sprayed about six thin coats on a bit of scrap a week ago and it seems to be quite hard now and shiny. Do you think this would be suitable.
Thats spooky, I watched that last night.
@robin Hahaha..... I watched them ages ago because I had the same concerns. When you asked the question, I remembered about them but couldn’t remember who had made them. With a little hunting around, I found them. You are welcome.
Make guitars, not war 🌍✌️🎸
Fingers crossed for ya! Looks the BIZ.
Thanks Mark, a quick question, do I put my earth wire into the end stop post or the bridge post? And also my drill was a bit wobbly and the end stop posts aren't very tight, should I superglue them in.
27/10/2020 10:12 am@robin The earth can go to either post tailpiece or bridge - no difference - do what is easiest.
I sometimes use a little epoxy in the hole if a little loose - superglue would also work but a bit more intense!
Thanks Mark, I've got it sorted now. I decided to put the earth wire to the tailpiece as the strings must make a better contact there with no moving parts, and it was closer to the control cavity.
I coated the oversize post holes with superglue and zapped it, then bored them out them again more carefully with a router bit in my cordless drill. I might have tried plunging with my router but it needs more Watts than my inverter can muster.
Thats two weeks now since my hiatus hernia surgery and I'm healing up nicely. Over the years most of my stomach had moved up into my chest and had apparently attached itself to one of my lungs. Everything is back where it belongs now, all done by keyhole and I'm feeling so much better. I've resumed some easy work on my guitar, adding more coats of Danish oil. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have it assembled, set up and playing it. So will be posting finished photos soon.
Well it is complete at last (apart from a headstock logo). This is my "First Practice Build", made from scrap wood that was lying under my caravan. When I started, I never intended it to be a complete guitar, I was only testing myself to see if I had the skills to justify spending money on some proper wood. I'm absolutely delighted with the result, thank you so much Mark Bailey for showing me how it's done, and you're right, anyone can make a guitar.
