Yes - time is limited on the workshop course - we only have 5 days to build from scratch... one of the luxury's being a member here is that you can work at home and take your time - there is no rush...
Measure twice, cut once...
@frocesterbill - I look forward to seeing your build.
Thank you, there's a couple of bits I'm not happy with but I think it look ok. I'm glueing the fretboard on later. I've been taking it a bit slower, as @markbailey says, there's no rush - tbh if I rushed it I would mess it up!!!
I'll post an update later. 🙂
As you say - no rush - just trying to get a feel for how much progress you could make in a day - I guess that by the time you have watched the video several times and checked, double checked and triple checked everything and then had a cup of tea and checked again you won't be going very fast - I am happy with that.
Will watch the neck section of videos again this week........
Look forward to watching your progress....
Where in the world are you?
Measure once........ Measure again......... Sod it - make tea!
Yeah, watching the videos a few times to ensure I make no mistakes does slow me down a bit, with practice you could probably make something within a couple of weeks I guess. Although I am currently part-time work (you know the thing nobody ever talked about, but everybody does now...) - making a guitar really helps with that! 🙂 So I have some time at the moment.
I am in Carlisle, UK.
My only comment would be that I don't think Bill has made enough of an allowance for tea. All of that watching videos and double and treble checking sounds like very thirsty work to me! Ideally make a large mug and a small thermos flask at the same time so that you can continuously top up the mug to keep at optimum temperature. Biscuits also help when it comes to aiding concentration.

I am probably addicted to tea.............
Biscuits are a problem - sometimes whole packets get 'sampled'.......
Measure once........ Measure again......... Sod it - make tea!
I'm with you. It's always important to conduct a thorough top of the packet/bottom of the packet comparison test for QA purposes. I know this isn't for everyone but I find that cream centre biscuits such as bourbons, custard creams and those formally known as gypsy creams make for the best dunking. Digestives just go from completely hard to sludge at the bottom of the cup far too quickly to be considered as dunkers IMHO! And nothing with a chocolate coating should EVER be dipped in tea!
This feels like a thread hijack! ?
I glued the fretboard to the neck, I think that's making the neck part 1 finished. Just need to install the truss rod next!!! Joking!
I have to admit the next part (carving the neck) is the only part I am not looking forward to.
I have to agree with all that's been said about appropriate 'pacing', comestible sampling and beverage top-ups. I was going to mention something about the inverse ratio of bladder retention against age and the need to be aware of distance to facility, but then remembered the garden.
However, you can never have too many clamps. Mark taught me that.
That's a tricky one.
There's the coefficient of apparent contraction due to extreme cold, various variable thresholds (pressure, pain and efficacy) and the perceived political pantomime when caught in the act. (just deny everything)
Not to be recommended.
Brilliant... Many thanks for that. I am reminded of the classic Billy Connolly story.
Yes, I know it's not about guitar making per se, however, there are many ancillary activities pertinent to H&S in the workshop that need discusing now and then.
