Well hello from me. New to the forum. Taking the tentative steps in trying to get experience to work on my own in the guitar repair, and making business for my autumn years. Had quite a colourful working career, but to be honest have never experienced such difficulties as getting experience in this field of work which has always been my dream. I am thinking seriously about paying the money to attend the Totnes school of guitar making to get a good grounding since it has such a good reputation, but really would also like to find another luthier near me in Hampshire to perhaps learn from as well, but the does seem difficult.
looking forward to reading all your posts.
Kindest regards.
@5544 Great to have you ! It is not an easy way to make a living that is for sure...the best way to get experience is to 'just do it' - if you want to be a guitar maker you got to make guitars...but don't take on any job unless you are damn sure you can do it. I've seen a lot of guys get themselves into bother bt biting off more than they can chew. Start slowly with the basics and build up from there. That is what my courses are all about - Good luck!
