Going back, back in time ...
Pretty sure this is the first time that I heard this track, and I've probably still got my original recording of it on a cassette in a box someplace (I've got a lot of recordings from John Peel shows!).
Best played loud, like all really good music ...

"possibly their best" could be the title for a whole separate new discussion
Hey @tv101. That would open up a whole new can of worms and it may put the whole forum into meltdown....... could be interesting though.Β

@Russ - that's what we're all here on the forum for - interesting discussions on topics broadly related to the building and using of guitars!Β Β
And (almost) anything that drives up the traffic stats is good for Mark.

Devo is such a funny band, very underrated. They did an awesome version of Satisfaction on SNL years ago.. Iβll go βn have a look...
I remember them being part of the punk thing back in the day - my day.Β Though they weren't really punk, there probably wasn't any other genre into which to shove them.
I've got a couple of their albums in my collection, though they don't get played that often.

My favourite song today is one I sang a few years ago at the non-virtual Acoustic Bliss
Was that in the days when they were recorded @Marcel?Β If so, if you give Carol the date, she might be able to dig it out from the archive, and include in one of the Thursday sessions ...

I think it was recorded, but really can't remember when it was. Probably about 4, 5 or even 6 years ago. Have been there several times, I'll try to track down when it was, but not sure if I'll be able to.

Found it!
It was June 1st 2017. Acoustic Bliss 11-2. To diminish the torture of the eardrums with my poor guitar playing and sqeaky singing turn down the volume.

You're *REAL* @Marcel ... (all those other videos could have been faked, CGI'd, or something).
Takes some nerve to get up there in front of a real audience, with just a guitar and a voice, and to kick it off with such an unusual song too.
Congrats to you - and thanks for posting.

Some great lyrics in this ...

First time I remember hearing this, Francis Rossi included it in a list of his "all time top N" favourite tracks on some radio show.Β All sorts of strange things were on that list, considering his day job, including this, not so strange one.

This is the original version of that last song. Have been playing it for many years with my band so I know the bass part quite well. When I was singing it at The Twa Dugs I was constantly translating the bass part into chords. The title of the song 'Met hart en ziel' means 'With your heart and soul'. It's about a rock artist on the decline, his best years are far behind him. But that doesn't matter as long as you love the music and play it with your heart and soul.

Great song! It was only decades later I found out that 'Johnny' was not the keyboard player but the guy blowing the saxophone.
