@russ I agree about the Strat and the Marshall but I canโ€™t put my name against the shark fin, not for me! Each to their own though. Rock n Roll.ย

No Worries John. What's your favourite? I like the Sharkfin as it's like having three plectrums in one.

Cheers,

Russ

I think the Strat is probably one of the most difficult shapes to copy without a spindle moulder. I found made the horns and head shape with a router quite tricky.

Some people call me a tool, others are less complimentary. Tools being useful things.

.The Fender Stratocaster is The Greatest Guitar ever Produced

@Russ

ย

Well, apart from the fact that it uses the wrong pickups.

And the body usually has a mahoosive chunk of horrible plastic over it.

And it's the wrong shape.

And the jack socket is in a daft place (other than from a manufacturing efficiency perspective).

And the neck just nails on.

And the headstock is way too big.

And they often have one of those floppy sticks poking out of the end of the bridge.

ย

😊

Ahhhhhh, opinions ....

😆

Boss Pedals are the Greatest Effects ever produced.

@russ Iโ€™ve always loved Boss pedals and still do. There are a lot of other manufacturers now though that are producing some amazing effect, so I donโ€™t think they hold the top spot any more. The last one I bought was the Angry Driver which is a collaboration between Boss and JHS, it is rather good.ย

As well as never having really been into Strats (in case you couldn't tell), I've never really used pedals that much either.

But I did buy a - Boss - ME80 earlier this year.ย  SO I might have to agree with @Russ' pedal opinion!!

@tv101ย  Come on TV, tell us what you really think!!

Despite my first electric guitar being a really crap Strat rip off, I have never really liked them that much either. I think it was all the Hank Marvin & The Shadows synchronised footwork that finally put me off! Tele's are so much cooler! Can you imagine Wilko Johnson playing a Strat?!!!!

The guitars that grabbed me were Ibanez but they can be seen as Strat copies. To me they are super strats. I love the design and concept of the Fender Strat because it made electric guitars become more accessible and affordable as opposed to expensive Gibsons. Ibanez and lots of others took Leo Fenderโ€™s idea and put their own spin on it. Thatโ€™s why I vote for the Fender Strat, it was influential.ย

Hi Darren,

I'm a Big Tele and Dr Feelgood fan too......I just find that the Stratocaster shape is a perfect fit. I do like a bit of Hank but I'm more a Ritchie Blackmore fan.ย

Cheers,

Russ

@russ I guess this thread is a perfect demonstration why there's more than one shape of electric guitar!

Top guitar has got to be a Strat.......

I am quite happy to have some of the variations - I do fancy building a SuperStrat, possibly masquerading as an Exotica..... ย Three pickups, possibly EMGs SA/SA/89..... ย

Back to Wilko Johnson - saw Dr Feelgood 3 times in Cardiff back in the late 1970s - he had a Strat as his spare - he was using HH solid state amps and alongside his amp on a stand was a Strat - never used it...

BUT

Measure once........
Measure again.........
Sod it - make tea!
