I confess. I´m not really a guitarist. I do play guitar. And I play bass. But inside me there´s still the drummer. When I was a kid I wanted to be Keith Moon. Drumming fascinated me and it still does. I started my musical career as a percussionist. I played in several bands playing conga´s and timbales. And at home I played my drumkit every day. It was many years later at the age of 38 that I started playing guitar and went to our local music school to get guitar lessons. And a few years later I picked up the bass and it never left my hands. But there was still the drummer in me. So I couldn´t resist buying a Roland electronic kit some years ago which I still play quite frequently. But this time it doesn´t annoy the neighbours.
As I said my first drum hero was Keith Moon. And as the years went by several other drum heroes followed. But the one drummer who in my humble opinion is the best drummer ever is Simon Phillips. Six years ago I went to a clinic he did in a drum shop close to where I live and I was blown away with what I saw and heard that day. Unparalleled jaw dropping technique combined with phenomenal musicality. This video is from that clinic.

Have you got a Multi Track Recorder Marcel? You could play everything on your own recordings. 😁🎸🥁🎤🎛️🎙️🎶
I remember Simon Phillips playing for the Michael Schenker Group. Very accomplished drummer. 🎶🥁🎶👍

Ok I confess too. I do the super glue and masking tape technique...................Ok Ok, I know do not be alarmed haha only on sanding blocks.Much easier to remove and replace. Double sided tape is like gold in my neck of the woods.
Hey, I started out with drums too. Ended playing guitar because my schoolmates always made me fill in the void the time during jam sessions. First I disliked it til I discovered songwriting and the rest is history. Just like Paul but instead of bass it was the guitar for me. I always have my drum kit at all times and still bang on it frequently whenever I record. My music playing time diminished tremendously thanks to Mark. The sacrifice however is most gratifying and well worth it.
Syncopated player Simon Philips, he plays open handed. He can play left or right handed second nature.
I think I’ll grab me my sticks and bang on my cocktail kit. Measure twice and cut once always.

Yes I do, but I haven´t used it for years now. It´s a good recorder (a Yamaha 12-track) but it´s not very easy to use. I did use it to make the music for this video, a song I wrote on one of our holidays in Scotland 10 years ago:

It must have been about 35 years ago that I went to a musical instruments fair in Rotterdam. There were several clinics and as a drummer I visited a clinic of Jim Kilpatrick. He was announced as one of the worlds best drummers. So a couple of hundred drummers gathered expecting maybe a jazz drummer or so because nobody had ever heard of him. And then a little guy in a kilt with only a snare drum walked up the stage and I thought (and I think I was not the only one) "oh my god what is this?" But the skepticism disappeared within half a minute. It was jaw dropping what he played.
Here's a video showing his skills.

That is incredible. He makes it look so easy.
Yep, like Tommy Emmanuel makes guitar playing look so easy or Pino Palladino makes bass playing look so easy.
