Nice save Steve!!!

(Did you borrow that extraction tool from your dentist?).

Nothing fundamental broken.  As you say, frustrating, but all part of the "fun"!

I’ve never seen a stretch rubber inlay before

Some people call me a tool, others are less complimentary. Tools being useful things.

@steveadams.

You did well to fix that Steve. I was surprised how easily it came out. 👍

Well done Steve!

I think the white stuff is 3mm x 3.15 mm so maybe you had it the wrong way round or maybe it got stretched as it was probably not new.

Sorry for the hassle...

I've sent you a new piece of Celtic inlay...

FYI: One option might have been to leave it - as you could have hidden the defect with a finger rest...

It's possible the slot was too shallow and you rubbed through to the flexible base of the purflex strip? Double check the depth of the slot to make sure it doesn't happen again - just use a small chisel if needed to scrape the bottom of the slot down to depth.

Measure twice, cut once...

Nice save @steveadams! I guess you’ll be following Mark’s advice to the letter from now on, eh? 😆

All’s well that ends well...

Practice on scrap...
