Still, it's polite to ask
@russ No problem. I’ve seen it done before but way more elaborate than my simple attempt. Mine is just as simple as you can get I think. My problem now though is that I’ve used up all my side dots doing this, I’ll have to buy some more now or I might have some knocking about somewhere.

No chance of missing the octave on that board, nice one!
@mattbeels Yeah I wanted to do something different than just the double dots and when I saw all the dots laid out on my desktop, the smaller ones were randomly scattered, surrounding one of the bigger ones. And then it struck me, aha, the solar system. It certainly stands out, especially when I wipe it down with spirit wipe, the Walnut darkens and the MOP dots really pop.

Using MOP for side dots is a bit nerve wracking, eh? Don’t drill to deep homie!
I really want to try Iluminlay side dots but they’re definitely pricy coming from Japan and I hear mixed reviews as to how long the glow lasts.
I’m sure a homemade solution would work but sometimes that’s too fiddly, we’ll see...
I do like the solar system idea and pretty much anything to do with outer space. I need a cool sci fi-ish name for my guitars, but first, sleep I must...
Practice on scrap...
Have you ever grain filled every part of a neck, including the fretboard? To make sure every pore is filled? It’s a new level of tedium and patience. 😉
I honestly can't say good enough things about Aquacoat clear grain filler, it’s so easy to apply, it dries fast fast fast and it sands so nicely too. This thing is smooooooooth........ I’ve spent two days finniting this neck, getting every last sanding scratch out, carefully rounding every edge and corner, getting the inlays in and sanded flat. I’m going to spend tomorrow doing a second coat of grain filler and sanding it all again, happy days. 😁
To you it probably looks exactly the same as it did in yesterday’s pictures but it’s much more, much smoother.

I guess that fretboard repair will blend in and disappear?
@mattbeels Yeah it will to a certain extent it’s a different type of wood so it will never be perfect. It’s on the under side of the fretboard as you would hold it to play it so it’s not really that noticeable.
