@nsj That looks wonderful, Iโ€™m chuffed for you mate, seriously.ย

With all that sanding to do though, you could do with a Mirka. 😂

Today I got on with doing the recesses for the controls aswell as the jack socket. I like using the barrel jacks, I fit a wedge of wood in the cavity so the nut can sit flat and be tightened easily. Wiring holes and strap button holes are all done too. Next up will be sanding, lots of sanding lol

I think that's me done the finish sanding now, been going back and forth looking for scratches to remove. Carves for the pots etc are all smoothed off too.

And also got the holes drilled for the locking nut.

Well I can't say I'm super happy with staining but it's my first time so I'll let it slide lol. I've sanded it right back twice today and now I'm leaving it. Can always have another go at it in the summer, paint it matt black and do growly songs 🤣ย

The neck is darker but it's pretty even so I'm leaving it as is. Next up, buy some hard wax oil on Monday

@nsj That is fantastic, youโ€™ve done a superb job. I think the colour looks just right and itโ€™s nice and even, youโ€™ve applied it very well. That is half the battle with any kind of finish, consistency, how even and flat it is on application. The worst thing about stain is if it looks patchy, unless itโ€™s intentional for some reason. It looks like you have swerved all the pitfalls, it looks good man. 👍

Careful when rubbing oil or wax on it as it will bring off some of the stain and could make it look patchy. I normally carefully wipe a thin coat on to seal it in, then build up a couple more coats, let it cure and then polish. 👍

@nsj Staining is a challenge but you did a good job of it. Nice color tone and fairly even.

Watch out for cure times when applying oil later. Be patient so you don't end up with a sticky mess. (Don't ask how I know 🙄 ).

@swepri going with a hard wax oil, it's like 8 hours between coats then probably something crazy like a week to cure! I'm going to need patience lol

@nsj Have you tried any of the Crimson Guitars oil finishes? I have used them with great success and finished off with Renaissance Wax for a silky smooth finish.

@timc not yet bud, I'm using their stain though but I want to check out the hard wax oil after watching youtube vids. I normally just finish with matt lacquer because it gives a really even oil finished look but it's to cold just now so trying this instead.
