Wow! These are all beautiful guitars. My favourite is the Super Strat/Ibanez style one, that’s really grabbed me.
I am on a natural progression towards something like that. My first was a Bailey Bandsman and I’m building a Tele at the moment but I will progress on to a Super Strat type. I will probably make a few of these before wanting to learn to build a Gibson Les Paul style but I suspect that is a different ball game.
Well done with these Deej, very impressive.
What are you building at the moment, anything?
Make guitars, not war 🌍✌️🎸
You must be proud of these Deej - great work!

Hi John
Work has got in the way at the moment. I have a Tele style, an accoustic (on Marks course) and a guitar cab currently on the bench. Plus a couple of commissions in the design phase.
Thanks for the comments - the through neck strat ( and yes the template was traced from an Ibanez) was done in The Bailey workshop under Marks expert eye. Highly recommended.

I have too many guitars...said no one in the world..ever!

I can relate to that Deej (work getting in the way).
If I was to attempt anything like that through neck, I would definitely take your advice and book in at Mark’s workshop. When I’ve finished this Tele, I think I will attempt to do a copy of my Ibanez PGM 301, bolt on neck, angled headstock (reverse), hardtail with HSH pickup config. I think it should be straight forward (ish).
How many guitars have you built?
Do you get much commissioned work from people?
Make guitars, not war 🌍✌️🎸
I have build about 8 CBG’s and about 9 electrics and 1/2 an acoustic at the date of writing this. I’ve also repaired and set up quite a few including replacing a broken truss rod on a Warwick bass
Im mainly just covering costs at the minute

Nice going, how long have you been doing it?
I started building kit guitars (electric) about 5 years ago until I found Mark about 2 years ago. I made my first Bailey Bandsman and now my first Tele from scratch. I’m getting in to it more and more, always planning. I haven’t built for anyone else yet.
Make guitars, not war 🌍✌️🎸
CBG’s about 3/4 years ago, electrics and acoustic about 2 years or so.
I have kept two, the superstrat and this one (the body/not the cap came out of my dads house when he died). There are videos of the build on Marks Instagram page and there was only me and one other guy also called David but with a nickname of Bones. A great relaxing week in Scotland

That sounds amazing Deej, I look forward to seeing more of your stuff.

Love seeing your work Dave and it was a pleasure to be on the course when you completed the Super Strat - beautiful wood choice fashioned into a stunning instrument...top work my friend!

Thanks Mike - yes it was good to be with you on your making journey as well. Your new builds are coming on great.

Having bonded the struts to my lovely ebony back and left it in my office for a week it has developed a crack running over half its length. It never ceases to amaze me how much life there is in old wood but I really wouldn’t have expected it to move as much as this. Never mind, Better now than when part of a completed guitar. I think I can strip off the struts, machine out the weakness in the grain on both sides and insert two more 10mm strips of Rio. Three piece back here I come!
Whilst I am waiting for my bending iron to arrive I have been reading up laminated backs and sides. Has anyone tried this? I don’t mean using shop bought ply but making up custom laminations using tone wood veneers. Thoughts anyone?
