Looks like you bought the last one at that price @Boo, with or without the Very Awful Tax.

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@robin yeh I did wonder, bit more room to play on a solid body. But, I think just rounding off the hard edges etc will look spot on.

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@robin - completely agree with the other comments about the sunken bridge - it's a "quality feature", not a mis-measurement. I've seen it on proper branded guitars (decent, expensive brand, IIRC, I ju...

Top Tip @Boo ... Before you plan what to do with them, empty them first.

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@nsj Not sure on the bridge, being a hollow body means less to work with I'd imagine. Maybe if the recess was a particular shape or that, or maybe even just a touch larger then the edges rounded off...

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@boo I’ve got four huge whisky barrels here that I don’t know what to do with yet but I was obviously considering attempting a guitar build of some kind. It doesn’t sound like it will be much fun th...

Turns out some of you have short attention spans and don’t like all this talk of veneers. So, just for you, here’s some video of a vacuum pump.

RE: My first laminated semi-hollowbody

That's *more* disappointing than the split & bubbled veneers. 🙁 Are you sure you're actually in the right workshop?

I have the Mirka roundy kit. It is still manual sanding, but you can hook it up to a vacuum cleaner and make your sanding work virtually dust free. I am amazed how good it actually works and , while i...

RE: No guitar mess up yet but…,

I find masks a real pita - usually make my glasses steam up - so I don't typically bother with them unless I'm doing something either *really* messy, or using some of then nastier timbers. But I do tr...

Glad that you are ok! Good with a reminder. I had no idea that dust from woodworking could be dangerous until last year when I started doing some stuff myself and started watching videos about woodwor...

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@nsj Yes, it's oak and mahogany. The oak was a whisky barrel top, horrible to work with, I'll not be doing again. I think the sunken bridge looks not too bad, what would you suggest to make it look i...

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

@robin Is that an oak top with mahogany back? Regarding the bridge, I've seen people make a feature of it so it looks like you sank it on purpose. Might be something to consider. Ps the "F holes"...

RE: Robin's build #003 (take 2)

Fast forward to now. Something went wrong when I was fitting the neck/body joint. I got a good clean joint but I must have altered the neck angle and height while I was doing it. So I've had to sink t...
