RE: Neck warped

@robin I think a cap is ok, has the rest of the body wood to keep it in line. Pesky necks are the issue, nothing to clamp to to hold them in line

RE: Neck warped

@nsj I would personally go with what @russ said. Wood movement is common but I would not want to introduce more water into it. It was more likely that it was just some internal tension in the wood. Wi...

RE: Neck warped

@nsj Can I fix this? Is it worth it? Is it likely to just remain an unstable piece of wood? I made the cap for my first build from a piece of warped mahogany that had been the floor from a boat. I s...

@nsj Hi Neil, did you get the wood from a reputable tonewood supplier or a reputable timber merchant? You can get great bargains from timber merchants but the pieces may need to be left longer to dry ...

Birdseye maple neck, reputable seller and all and I'm not blaming them in any way. Just wondering if this common with things like birdseye? Finished the guitar and uploaded my final build vid to my yo...

RE: Going the other way this time-A Baritone?

I think black limba looks gorgeous on it's own but if wanting to use the top I'd pick something a bit plainer. Maple and sapele laminates on the neck could be nice, weight wise I don't think it'll be ...

RE: New build

I'd be a little wary of modifying that design too much if it will affect (reduce) the gluing area - particularly if you've got a longer neck which will add more force/stress to the joint too?

RE: New build

After a bit of measuring and decision making I decided to shift the truss rod a bit further forward to allow more room for the body. Also going to modify the curve where the neck joins to get full acc...

Going the other way this time-A Baritone?

Picked up some wood over christmas, but I don't want to cut this one down this time. I've got three tenor uke sized bodies and necks already. (The little jazzmaster-shaped uke only needs me to get the...

There's a few aspects to consider - appearance, tone, balance (and probably more). With maple, ebony and the flamed redwood top, you've already got some very different looking timbers. I'd probably t...

One of these days I have to try again to get the body properly finished. After that, just have to tidy up the pickguard and get the second pickup wound. I'm already itching to start another build so I...

Hope you've got a guitar or two in there too? Anyways, not being a total wuss, and because the sun did indeed come out and shine brightly, I ventured to the depths of my workshop this morning and fo...

@tv101 Thanks. Totally understand. We’ve got the new stove working in here so it’s 28°c in the living room. We’ve sealed the door and Ruth, me and the dogs are waiting for April. No-one is going out t...

It's probably not just your age @jamesbisset I'd tell you which wax I used, except it's out in the workshop and I'm in the house. And the bit between the house and the workshop is very cold (or "a ...

Maybe it’s just my age, but I’m feeling in the need of a fancy wax myself. You neglected to mention which one though. One of these, I assume? The Black Bison Paste sounds suitably macho for a vigorou...

I think so @jamesbisset - it's a definite improvement over an oiled finish in terms of shine and, perception, protection that it'll give to the guitar. It's what I'm going to use for future builds. W...

@tv101 This Easy French polish looks like it might hit the sweet spot between hardcore violin varnish and Danish Oil. Question: does it leave a ring on the guitar when you rest a nice, hot cup of tea...

I'm really pleased that I did a lot of Stewmac shopping when the exchange rate was close to £=$2, made things a lot more affordable!
