RE: Renaissance guitar

@koendb Since this is a guitar forum I wonder if there is an interest if I also create a topic for the lute building as well? Please do, its been fascinating seeing the skills involved and watching...

RE: Renaissance guitar

Oh yes please, very much please. I'll never have the skills, nor even understand half the techniques, that you're learning and applying, but it's really interesting to see the updates and what you go ...

RE: First Uke Effort

Nice one James, looks great. I’m going to have to have a go at making one soon, everyone seems to be building acoustic instruments in recent times.

RE: Compensated Nuts?

Hmmmm ... I'm now wondering if that's some sort of word-association thing. You saw the poster's name and when straight to completely nuts ... No, of course not 😉

RE: Compensated Nuts?

@tv101 This is not helpful at all, but I read the subject as "Completely Nuts" at first. I should use my compensated reading glasses, i suppose. 😀

RE: Benefits of a bolt-on acoustic neck

😆 Not so local Koen - unless you're planning on taking your latest wow creation on a European (and, post-Brexit, non-European) tour?? 😉 If you've got a Taylor, their CS (based in Netherlands) ...

RE: Benefits of a bolt-on acoustic neck

I might - just as a challenge for the CNC. From what I've seen, their shims are made to fractions of a mm, and have to be fitted as a matching pair. It'd be an interesting challenge to see how close...

RE: first scratch build : a neck through 12 string semi hollow telecaster style guitar

If you've got the time, money and wood @tyreman then go for it. It's all about learning and trying things out. For the proportions, you could be right in trying it with the longer strat style body. &...

there was cool one that ben crowe made of crimson guitars where he made a 12 string with a rickenbacker inspired headstock, not sure if I like it, but it is good for saving space.

I agree with you, the weight being a primary issue with the longer headstock, I also think it would suit a strat style 12 string better than a tele style, thanks for the feedback.

@robin I agree with you robin, it's been holding me back a bit but now I can continue with the real build, I will go with the 6 x 6 headstock.

@tyreman I like the idea of a straight string pull, thats what I try to do with the six string headstock design that I use. But, I do agree with the other guys that it looks out of proportion.

RE: first scratch build : a neck through 12 string semi hollow telecaster style guitar

@tyreman That is wild and cool. My only issue with it is a practical one, I think it will be top (head) heavy when playing. Unless you have some counter weight at the back of the body, I feel the head...
