Excellent work @koendb. Nylon string for the frets? A very interesting concept. How does it sound?

@russ these are actually real gut frets, the strings themselves are Nylgut , but the frets need to be real gut. I believe because nylon is too stretchy.

It sounds surprisingly loud for such a small instrument

@koendb

Thats looking great, an amazing amount of skill on show.  An odd question though, theres eight pegs on the headstock, but I can only see seven strings at the bridge, is there one missing or just a deceptive photo.

@robin No you have it right! The A course is only one string called the chanterelle. It s function is melody string. Because of esthetics, the peg and peg hole is made but does not have a real function. Some people use it to attach a strap.

Nice catch !

Well, I can't play very well, I 'll try to find a piece I can learn quickly and play it as soon as I can, but in the meanwhile, this is how it is supposed to sound like if someone with proper playing skills plays it:

So I am happy to announce that I passed my 'exam' yesterday and I have started building my first lute as part of module 2 of the course.

This 2nd module will most probably span more then one year again, since it is more involved then this one.

Since this is a guitar forum I wonder if there is an interest if I also create a topic for the lute building as well?

Oh yes please, very much please.

I'll never have the skills, nor even understand half the techniques, that you're learning and applying, but it's really interesting to see the updates and what you go through to make an instrument.

So, yes very much please.
