@tyreman That is wild and cool. My only issue with it is a practical one, I think it will be top (head) heavy when playing. Unless you have some counter weight at the back of the body, I feel the headstock will always be wanting to fall to the floor and pull the body up. That would make it quite hard to play as you would have to hold the weight of the neck up as well as trying to play.
I could be wrong but try it out and see what happens, it might not be that bad.

It still looks cool but I think I would put it on a bigger and heavier body.

Let us know what happens. 👍

@tyreman

I like the idea of a straight string pull, thats what I try to do with the six string headstock design that I use. But, I do agree with the other guys that it looks out of proportion.

@robin

I agree with you robin, it's been holding me back a bit but now I can continue with the real build, I will go with the 6 x 6 headstock.

I agree with you, the weight being a primary issue with the longer headstock, I also think it would suit a strat style 12 string better than a tele style, thanks for the feedback.

what do you think of this headstock design?

The camera angle probably exaggerates it further, but the headstock now looks very big (long) compared to the size of the body.  I realise that it's always difficult to get 12 strings on to a headstock, but I think I'd go with your first option.

Unless you fancy having a go at something like this ...

there was cool one that ben crowe made of crimson guitars where he made a 12 string with a rickenbacker inspired headstock, not sure if I like it, but it is good for saving space.

If you've got the time, money and wood @tyreman then go for it. It's all about learning and trying things out. For the proportions, you could be right in trying it with the longer strat style body.

@tyreman Congrats! Turned out very well. 👍

Did you get the balance right with both weight relief and 12 tuners?

@swepri I'm happy with the balance, maybe a bit neck heavy so if anything the body could have been solid and it might have been a little bit better balance wise, the real test will be putting straplock buttons on it.

I re-carved the top, got rid of the volute and thinned out the neck then re-finished it, feels even better now to play. Just need to add on strap buttons, and then it's officially finished, the one thing I couldn't work out though was I must have gotten the angle slighly off because at the lowest bridge setting it's still a bit too high by about 1mm, lesson learnt though and hopefully on guitar no2 it'll be better.

@tyreman

Thats all looking good. If you're not happy with the string height, why not recess the bridge by the thickness of the plate to make it flush with the body, that would give you bit of room for adjustment.

thanks, I think that's the right idea, will wait until the next re-string and do it then.

i think applying wood polish in darker parts of the guitar might be a nice detail 🤔

@sogoslotvvip hi, not sure what you mean by wood polish? It is french polished, it probably doesn't come out too well in the photos though because it was a dull/cloudy day when taken.

@tyreman my mistake, it is polished after all! 😥 you are probably right about the photos being slightly dark due to the cloudy weather.. great work btw 😆
