Building my own version of a strat this time, 3 single coils, 5 way blade etc. So far I've been working on the neck, today I got the fret markers done. Next will either be frets in or carve, haven't decided yet. Whole thing will be made from cherry.

@russ I actually started this one while waiting on stuff arriving for the last one, got all the scarf joint done, trussrod in, fretboard slotted and glued on etc. I try to procrastinate but my brains an idiot 🤣

Been a bit hectic here lately, getting a new car amongst other things but hey ho, back at it

Neck carved using Marks super fast easy method which has become my goto

Then roughed out a body, got the neck fitted then refined the heel and horn areas.

Now just waiting on parts, bridge mainly. Then I can get on with routing etc

Got the bridge mounting sorted as well as the string through holes, also the pickup cavities as there will be no pickguard as usual. Hoping my 1/2 inch roundover bit arrives tomorrow so I can crack on.

@nsj Ohhh, it’s a hardtail. Nice, I love it, especially the fretboard.
Will you slow down making guitars, you’re making the rest of us look bad. 😆

@nsj The curve of the carving around the neck pocket is just beautifully executed! 🤩 😍

@koendb Cheers, I use a bowl and dish router bit. Sort of trace the outline of the inner horns on paper then draw a nice circular shape and finally cut out an mdf template which i fine tune. Works great.

Lovely smooth carves and curves on that body @NSJ, and I always prefer the recessed screw (or bolt) holes for fixing a neck, just looks hugely neater to my eyes.

👍

@tv101 Cheers, I'm really not a fan of the big metal plate myself, you can create a much nicer shape and feel without it.

Frets all levelled, crowned and polished and logo done

Also trying out ebonising, you put 0000 wire wool in a jar with white vinegar and leave it. It makes some sort of chemical that reacts to tannins in certain woods to turn them dark. Did that then added a coat of osmo poly x. More to go

Awesome @nsj!

That neck looks soo good.

I generally prefer guitars without pickguard, but looking at these pictures, I realize

that, for me, a strat looks weird without one 🤔

The back looks killer ! I love how the grain lines continue through the backplate and that carving around the heel is very satisfying to watch.
